The "Gift" of a Tree

November 17th, 2010

The scenario is a familiar one – you have just finished decorating your Christmas tree and you tiredly stand looking at all those decorations you didn’t use this year; and maybe you didn’t use them last year either. Whether it’s because our tree is now smaller or our tastes have changed, we all seem to have leftover decorations.

The members of the Idaho Falls Garden Club had enough leftover decorations between us to decorate a tree; and that is exactly what we did. On November 17, 2010 the Idaho Falls Garden Club monthly meeting was held at the Veterans’ Center in Pocatello, Idaho. We arrived with a donated tree and a wide assortment of leftover decorations. With neither a designated leader or a preconceived plan, a dozen members pooled all their “leftovers” to create a truly beautiful tree for the enjoyment of the Veterans’ Center residents, family members and staff. The tree and decorations will remain the property of the Center; and there is already talk about doing another tree next year. I’m betting most of us can still find more “leftovers” to help with next year’s project.
